Technology Collaborations and Research Commercialization at PRISM

A primary mission of PRISM is to see that its work impacts society beyond the walls of Princeton . This is accomplished in large part by working with industrial partners who are well suited to bring about such an impact. PRISM's close collaboration with industrial partners has the objective of promoting the development of new materials science and technological innovation at the non-traditional intersection of several disciplines leading to the rapid and timely technology transfer and commercial application of emerging technologies. PRISM is committed to providing the enhanced intellectual and technological resources needed by industry to compete successfully in the world market.

In addition to sponsored research projects and technology licensing arrangements facilitated by PRISM, industry and government sponsors are encouraged to become members of the PRISM Industrial Affiliates Program.

The Industrial Affiliates Program at PRISM

The goal of the PRISM Industrial Affiliates Program in not to simply transfer science and technology developed at Princeton to industry, but to have industry involved with PRISM in the initial creation of these advances. The Program is designed to intimately involve industry in PRISM activities through the exchange of information, technology and people. This is done in such a way to serve the needs of industry and government partners consistent with Princeton University 's goal of excellence in education, research, and service to the community.

To ensure these goals are met, PRISM has created an Industrial Affiliates Program. Organizations providing unrestricted support to PRISM research and activities on a level of $20,000 to $50,000, or more per year, depending on the degree of interactions and nature of the organization, or who enter large-scale partnerships with PRISM funded by a third party, or through SBIR/STTR projects, are eligible to join as Industrial Affiliates.

Among the benefits to Industrial Affiliates are:

Receipt of PRISM publications such as the PRISM newsletter, Focus;
Assistance with access to students involved in PRISM research programs facilitated through the director's office;
Assistance with access to PRISM faculty and staff in order to make appropriate linkages for solving technical problems or in submitting joint proposals to various funding agencies;
Rapid access to new technologies developed at PRISM;
Receipt of announcements of PRISM activities such as the Annual Review, PRISM-sponsored technical programs and seminars, and information on course listings of materials-related curricula; and
All affiliates are assigned faculty liaisons to insure close connections on a technical level.
Commensurate with the appropriate level of support, industrial members may be provided with the following additional benefits:

Access to PRISM facilities, such as the PRISM Micro/Nano Fabrication Laboratory and Imaging Analysis Center, through the establishment of collaborations or cooperative agreements with interested PRISM faculty;
The opportunity to designate employees as visiting PRISM collaborators and researchers to work on-site with PRISM faculty, as a means of obtaining firsthand access to new technologies being developed in our laboratories.
Beyond these membership benefits, industrial members may be invited to serve on the PRISM advisory board, or ad hoc panels that guide the direction and evolution of PRISM research and tech transfer initiatives.
