Arnold named an ONR Young Investigator
Craig B. Arnold was recently named an Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program award winner. This prestigious award was established to attract to naval research outstanding new faculty members at institutions of higher education, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers.
Arnold, an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering who is affiliated with the Princeton Institute for Science and Technology of Materials and the Princeton Environmental Institute was one of only 28 winners nationwide. His research program entitled “Optimized performance of lightweight battery systems through characterization and control of mechanical properties” looks to establish an understanding of how mechanical properties affect the electrochemical behavior of these lightweight and flexible systems, in order to improve their lifetime and energy storage.
Arnold earned a Ph.D in Physics from Harvard University in 2000 before becoming a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory. He joined the Princeton faculty in fall 2003.
